Every mountain biker loves discovering a hidden gem—places with incredible trails, good vibes and breathtaking scenery—before the world catches on. For its 19th year, BC Bike Race is putting the spotlight on one of these special places: Cowichan Valley.

Located on Vancouver Island, just an hour north of Victoria, British Columbia’s capital, the Cowichan Valley boasts a rare microclimate that makes it one of the most temperate regions in Canada. With lush forests, rolling farmland and scenic mountain views, the area is an emerging hotspot for mountain biking.

Featuring four unique trail networks and a 65-acre event centre, all within a 15-minute drive of one another, the Cowichan Valley is the ideal place to kick off this year’s seven-day stage race from June 30 to July 6.

The first three stages will take riders through Cowichan’s diverse terrain, set against the backdrop of spectacular coastal landscapes.

The Basecamp for this first half of the race will be the Cowichan Exhibition Grounds (CowEx), which sits at the foot of Mount Prevost. This community event space is second to none. Built for large events like the BC Bike Race, CowEx will provide an exceptional basecamp experience for this year’s racers. This is the best event venue I’ve seen in my 30 years as an event organizer.
