Laila Terrell only got to ride her specialized bike once before it got stolen. The family has set up a GoFundMe to help replace it.

ANOKA, Minn. — An Anoka family is desperate to get their daughter’s specialized bike back.

Last month, Lavindica Terrell said someone stole her daughter Laila’s bike.

“It’s like red and training wheels and then it has like a bag in the back," Laila said. "My bike was my special bike, and I looked like a rockstar."

Specialized bikes are expensive, so Laila’s social worker helped them get a donated adult tricycle.

“I was definitely upset, and I was trying to figure out how I was going to explain to her that her bike was gone. There were three other bikes out there, including hers, but the other two weren’t even locked up, but they saw that one because like I said it’s a special bike,” she said. “It’s not like your traditional two-wheel. It had three wheels.”

Lavindica said Laila has autism and struggles with balance, so she can’t ride a two-wheel bike. She said Laila is tall, so the kids tricycle’s are too small.“It’s hard to find a child’s bike that’s going to have the training wheels like that, and so that’s why we got the adult tricycle.”The bike was also a way to help improve Laila’s balance and make walking easier.“She was a toe-walker and she went through the casting and everything, and braces and everything so she could be on her heel and riding the bike would […]
