L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger and Los Angeles County Public Works led a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community bike ride at Michillinda Park in Pasadena on Friday, Aug. 11.
The project began construction in February 2022 and was officially completed this past June. Improvements to the area include repaved roads, an added bike lane, a new traffic signal at the intersection of Huntington Drive and Madre Street/Muscatel Avenue alongside various sustainable features.
In the past, the street was marked with cracked asphalt, yellowing grass in the dividing median and broken sidewalks. Now, with a fresh coat of concrete, the city also implemented drought-resistant features in the median and gutters to capture stormwater for natural drainage.
“The project is just one of a sample of projects we’re doing around Los Angeles County, not only in the unincorporated area, but in conjunction with cities to improve safety, change the way we handle the landscaping, improving its ability to withstand and be resilient against climate and actually capturing water at the same time and putting it back in the ground,” said Mark Pestrella, the director of Los Angeles […]
